Members of the influential Senate Foreign Relations Committee, commenting on a fact-finding mission in Iraq, believe that we are now stuck there for as long as five years, and will be required to provide military, government, and economic support the whole way through, as reported by Reuters.
Even Republican Sen. Richard Lugar, a traitor who wants to send American troops to Israel to die, stated his belief that the president has not been entirely forthcoming with Americans regarding the outlook for the occupation in Iraq, going so far as to say:
<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>
"There now needs to be real truth-telling by the
president and by each of us."<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
Five years is a very long time to have to commit troops. It's not even three months in, and troop morale is not exactly stellar. The money is not likely to be a key issue, as the police action will no doubt be paid for with profits from the renewed Iraqi oil infrastructure -- so the Iraqis will pay for their occupation, er, liberation, with the one economic resource they have to their collective names.
Will the American public be so forgetful of this quagmire come next November? Sadly, probably so.
